Altmann, Alexander
(1906-88)
   Rabbi and scholar of Hungarian origin. He served as rabbi in Berlin and taught philosophy at the Rabbinical Seminary there. In 1938 he settled in Manchester, England, where he founded the Institute of Jewish Studies. In 1959 he became professor of Jewish philosophy at Brandeis University. He wrote studies on Jewish philosophy and mysticism, including Saadya Gaon: The Book of Doctrines and Beliefs, Isaac Israeli and Studies in Religious Philosophy and Mysticism.
